Maria O’Bryan has been performing professionally as a Harpist since 1980 enchanting and amazing her audiences by her technique and musicality. A foundation in classical music, Maria’s formal study began with 10 years of piano, theory, and musicianship in St. Louis, Missouri. Numerous public reciatls and recordings led her towards a performing career and scholarship studies of the harp. She became harpist for the St. Louis Philharmonic at age 17 and began playing with touring Broadway Musicals. Studying Harp Performance she began at the University of Arizona at Tucson and later went on to The Julliard School, New York.
Excelling in both classical and popular music, Maria offers all-age beginners a rare chance to study non-pedal harps. Her personal charms and fresh approach to the teaching of the Harp make the students at ease, confident, and immediately playing beautiful music in Ensembles with other beginners. Always innovative, Maria writes her own arrangements to classical and popular music to make students sound good from the start. Maria directs an event which draws total captivation from performers and audiences alike. She has been a Piano, Strings, and Wind Teacher and a Chamber Music Coach from the 6th grade level to college level. She offers all-instrument accomanying and competition prep. Having been an adjudicator and clinician for the Music Educators Assocaition, Maria can prepare students for auditions and follow the accomplishment of student weekly objectives. She has published articles for American Strings Teachers Magazine and has written orchestral arrangments for Youth Symphonies. Maria brings an energetic, positive attitude towards studying music and always encourages individual accomplishment.
Maria O’Bryan offers lessons in flute with a high emphasis on the fundamentals, so her students have the skills to develop strong technique and good tone. She divises exercises and covers literature which helps every student in band and with audition skills. Flute students will improve their sound, range, counting, and work with solo literature. Ensembles and Chamber groups are always encouraged!
